Reading progress update: I've read 7 out of 472 pages.

Step number one with this book is clearly to figure out how to read it. The marginalia are driving me slightly crazy because I cannot resist reading them as they come up in the text (or as best I can tell how they fit, at least), but inserting long comments in the middle of the text of the novel makes it very hard to actually track both. So in practice I think I may be reading everything on the page at least twice. 

 

This is slow-going. I'm taking limited notes as stuff comes up I think I will want to remember for whatever reason. I am also having a strange amount of fun with this. 

 

 

 

 

 

Current thoughts/guesses:

 

  • The male character's name is not actually Thomas, and that is probably the pseudonym used by Straka when he checked into the hotel in which he is supposed to have died.
  • The student ID connected to that name is probably important, because number + JJ Abrams.
  • This is going to be kind of trippy. That is not a guess so much as a foregone conclusion.
